Some keys on keyboard don't work !! (Vista)

Hey guys,

I just came across a problem all of a sudden today. For some reason the keys : backspace, capslock, windows button, y, r, u and p don't work any more. When I click them nothing appears on the screen. And all other keys work just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas ? I have a Vaio FZ11s with Windows Vista

Ive already tried updating the software, but it says the driver is up to date.

Thanks in advance,
Bye
Irfan

Try a system restore to a time before your problem loomed. If you have Nortons installed and the system restore doesn't function then tap F10 and start the recover process and navigate to the point where you have the option to system restore and do it from there.

Very little I fear Irfani as this is almost certainly a hardware problem.

Most of the keys you are having problems with do not have dual functions which almost rules out any software issue.

Is the machine still covered by warranty as it seems as though a new keyboard is required. You could check out this theory by pugging in an external keyboard...

I just found out the following :

- An external keyboard functions perfectly
- And believe it or not, the weirdest thing is, that if I keep the spacebar pressed in, while I press any of the non functioning keys, they miraculously work... But I have to keep the spacebar pressed !!

Does that still mean it's a hardware problem ?

Hey guess what. All of a sudden. I kept pressing all the buttons with the spacebar pressed and all the keys started working again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is fantastic  I don't know what happened ? Any idea, anyone ? So I can avoid it happening again.

Thanks for the help guys.

i had the same kind of problem with my fz11z. but just different keys wouldnt work, and then sometimes they would...which wasn't good enough.

in the end i sent it back. it works now, but im not really happy with how long it took, for what the said they did on the inventory sheet included - secured the keyboard cable with kapton tape. which isn't really good enough. funnily enough i got a call from the service centre very soon after when i mentioned all this on the forum here...to which the sony guy said they replaced a cable.

if i was you, i would call sony and at least tell them of the problem so ur on the system as soon as pssoible. coz u never know when it will play up again.

i hope it stays cool though.
