Mouse problems!

After letting my grandson play games on my precious Vaio the left side mouse button has become loose and 'clunky'!

Although the machine is under 12 months old, I don't think this problem would be covered under guarantee, and when I had to send back my previous Vaio for repairs it took 3 weeks before it was returned!

I couldn't possibly live without my machine for this length of time, so can anyone advise what are my options for a speedy, non-expensive (hopefully) repair?

I think you are caught between a rock and a hard place on this one,

If a non Sony approved repairer fixes it there is a good chance that your warranty will be invalidated. But of course that's if they find out.

There's no shortage of companies offering laptop repairs. I haven't used any myself but a quick Google search will find companies such as Laptopsupport.co.uk (5-day turnaround) or Laptopsrepair.co.uk or laptopsolutions.co.uk or dab-solutions.co.uk the list seems endless.

Hello Rizla, and thanks for your speedy reply. I checked out the first link and they charge an incredible £99 for any Sony repair. Am wondering whether to ask a local repair shop whether they could do anything, or whether to contact Sony.

Thanks for your help, meanwhile grandson can go and play football in the park, see what damage he can get up to there!

LOL

Well that's his pocket money reasigned for the next few years!

Would definately be worth checking out your local PC shop before you consider sending it off anywhere. At least that way you've got the security of knowing exactly where it is as well as not having to go to the trouble of finding suitable packaging material to send it off in the forst place..

Yeah something very similar happened to my touchpad button on the GRX, thankfully it's usable, but it clunks as you say.

If you can, you're better getting a good mouse

Thanks everyone for your interest. Well, I hit lucky. My son works for a local computer designer who is always very busy. Because of this I didn't want to ask him to check imy Vaio for me. However, my son took my laptop into the firm this morning. His boss took out around 40 screws surrounding the upper casing, cleaned it out and replaced the 'spring' or whatever which connects to the mouse mechanism. He then applied glue to strengthen the mechanism. He said this repair would have cost about £100 from Sony, but he accepted two large Cadbury's Dairy Milk bars.

What a star! May his business prosper!

Result - mouse clicker working brilliantly again.. Next trip to town we're going to buy a cheap heavy-duty USB mouse suitable for the next time my grandsons visit.

That's good news.

Wish my local PC shop took chocolate as payment:smileycry:

Yes, chocolate is a great currency as far as I'm concerned! We certainly owe him a big favour Meanwhile, going to buy a separate mouse (for grandson's use)! and rig out my old Vaio. Can't risk similar thing happening again.
