Error Camera may be in use by another application

Hi,

I'm experiencing this error on my M5 at the moment.

"Error

The camera may be in use by another application. Please close the other application and try again."

I've tried rebooting, factory reset, safe mode, and clearing data/cache of camera app. Nothing works!

I just got my M5 and I'm disappointed by this.

The camera worked fine the first week only. I haven't done anything to my phone nor did I drop it to cause such issue.

Can someone help me out?

I just bought this unit last tuesday (11/29/2016) Today when accessing camera app I get the ERROR MESSAGE: camera maybe in use by another application. I tried: Turning off/on the unit clear camera data and cache Use the sony xperia companion's software repair factory reset in the setting>back up and reset All failed *sigh* I run the diagnostic and discovered that the front camera is working and the main/rear camera shows all black. Is this a software issue? or a hardware one?

Hi. Have you got a solution to this yet? I have had the same roblem with my M4 for nearly a year. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, complete firmware re-flashes using Companion app, the service formatting tools, and all sorts, but it simply hasn't worked. Recently I broke my screen, but that's not the cause, as until then it was extremely well treated.

Sony may claim that it's not a know error, but the number of people with this problem on th M4 and M5, it seems that there must be a serious problem, and surely most people are getting it resolved somehow (unlike me, who has livd with the problem for a year since it randomly started, probably after an app update.

Would be great to know how people have solved it, and if we are collectively any closer to working out what the problem actually is.

Thanks

P.S. Have even tried booting into Safe Mode, and the camera still won't work. I cant say that I'm at all impressed with this phone. Between the charging problems I first experienced, the mixed quality sony representatives and responses, and a phone that has severe memory shortage, and can't use the SD card for storing apps without using tweaks and hacks. So clearly, the phone has a few serious issues, and not having my phone camera working for a year is just one of them. I'm just one person, so how much does Sony care about sorting out client problems? I guess the lack of response to all the posts worldwide about this problem for the last year and more are just a reflection of how Sony's focus is not on customer satisfaction  through issue resolution and avoidance, but instead through new product releases promising improvements, whether realistic or not.

Hi.. This am using Sony C5 and yesterday I faced this problem.. The camer won't be opened at all and show the same mentioned error.
I have just solve the issue by going to the settings - apps - camera - force stop.
I opened the camera and worked the same as the first time you start up the phone!!!

Anyway.. I hope you can fix this issue on your phones by doing the same,,

Hi! I have a C5 ultra phone and I also encountered the same problem. I have tried force stop, it didn't work. I have tried to disabling, restarting and enabling camera but still it doesn't work.

We are alarmed with this problem. My brother is planning to sell his sony phone because of this. I have other friends who have Sony units and they too are alarmed. Please help find solution to this problem. We believed in the quality of Sony esp its camera, do not disappoint us. Thank you.

I have experienced this problem. It stops bothering when one disables Google: "hello Google" Try it, disabled and enable so that you can establish cause and effect.

Hi I am having the same issue as well.. Everytime I open the camera, the abovementioned error statement always appears on the black screen.. The rear camera doesnt work with any other cam apps such as snap chat, camera360 and many more. The front cam however works just fine. Ive tried almost everything from clear cache, clear data, enable, disable, force stop camera from the app setting, restarting the phone, safe mode, and even did a factory data reset.. But it is still not working!! Ive also tried checking the camera on the diagnostics, and it failed as well. I just bought this phone: sony xperia z5 premium a few days ago from a reseller store. This is too frustrating. Any other solutions?

I too having the same exact problem, Back Camera not working but Front works in 3rd party applications from play store. I tried reset, Software repair nothing works. Finaly i took my mobile for service , they replaced the back camera with new one, but the same error exists. The problem is not in the camera. this may be software issue or motherboard issue, Sony Has to reply the cause for this problem. Thank You

I agree with you

any updates on this sony it seems that it is a firmware problem on your end. Because it also produces bugs on the firmware I can't even make use of the apps because of this.. please a fix for this sony I already have regrets on buying this phone..
