Worldwide expansion of the Amazon Prime Video Service
In December, Amazon will expand their Amazon Video service worldwide. The service will be available in over 200 countries after the initial launch in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan. The Amazon Launch date was set on 14th of December and is completed. The app will be available on Sony's BRAVIA TV as of Monday the 19th of December, 9AM GMT / 6PM JST (Scheduled). The following European region countries will be included:
France – Italy – Spain – Albania- Andorra – Belarus – Belgium- Bosnia and Herzegovina – Bulgaria – Croatia – Cyprus – Czech Republic – Denmark – Estonia – Faroe Islands – Finland – Gibraltar – Greece – Greenland – Hungary – Iceland – Ireland – Kosovo – Latvia – Liechtenstein – Lithuania – Luxembourg – Macedonia – Malta – Moldova – Monaco – Montenegro – Netherlands – Norway – Poland – Portugal – Romania – San Marino – Serbia – Slovakia – Slovenia – Sweden – Switzerland – Turkey – Ukraine – Vatican City
Be aware that users from those countries will possibly experience issues or have questions about the new service. We’ve identified 3 potential categories:
1) Customers who are informed via news and social media of the Amazon Prime activation in their countries and want to know if this feature will be available with Bravia TVs
2) Customers discover the Amazon Prime app for the first time on their TV and want to know more about this new feature
3) Customers have issues when trying to use the Amazon Prime app on their TV (Login issues, streaming errors)
These market issues can be roughly divided into two types. On the one hand, there are Amazon issues, which are related to the service itself or with the Android Application Package (APK). In this case, customers will either see an apology notification displaying on the Amazon User Interface, or Sony will forward calls to Amazon. A second possibility is a Sony Software issue (issues with TV software package) in which case Sony has to stop the service.
The Amazon Prime Video service will be launched on all FY15 and FY16 Android TVs on 19th December 2016.
- FY16 Android TV models (Marshmallow preinstalled) : the service will be automatically activated and visible on the App’s shelf
- FY15 & FY16 Android TV models (Lollipop preinstalled): the service will become activated only if he latest firmware is installed (after Software update PKG3. 533)
- Non-Android smart TV models: do not currently support the service. More information on a possible implementation will follow.
