. Installed service pack: WindowsXP Home SP2
Still using service pack: yes
2. Boot language: English
3. Detailed problem description: all 6 usb ports are not working. you can try varoius devices in any of the ports and you get no errors . it is like there is no power to the usb at all. the card readers have also dropped of the pc
steps taken to resolve the issue
removed and reinstalled all usb devices in device manager including the ports.(universal serial bus controllers section of device manager) on reboot windows says it detects the mouse but moue does not work in any port this happens with any hardware usb bound.
reinstalled the entire system and allowed windows to do all updates
also unticked the windows power management from the usb root hub in the universal serial bus controllers section of device manager
turned power managemnet of via windows. as it seems the ports are not recieving power.
the way this has gone it does look like a driver for the usb ports issue.but normally with winxp sp1 it resolves this however as this comes with winxp sp2 i can not roll it back.
4. Checked for upgrades or patches: yes
5. Additional SW: only preinstalled software on the pc other than hps printer. which worked fine before the ports dropped
6. Additional HW: none other than memmory
7. Extra memory added: yes
8. Additional remarks: so all storage devices that are usb that come with the vaio have dropped off the system and all usb ports (4) on the back (2) at the front are not responsive. you can plug something in and is not recognised no power to the ports. when i reinstalled the usb through removing from universal serial bus controllers section of device manager it was redetected and reinstalled fine. windows recognised this like it should.
there are no errors device manager says it is working properly. everything else works fine this is only affecting the usb ports
the above is part of my e support ticket . i thought i would post this on the forum to see if anyone else has experienced this issue with the sony vaio desktop PCV-RS702
maybe you have found a resolution if so please say as im getting a little stuck on this now
thank you
please do not double post
didi not know it had double posted considering it errored on first attempt 😞
its ok i did that a few times as well.
I can't help you with your problem. sorry.
i only have one suggestion,
here it is:-
Is the USB2.0 pci card inserted properly. Make sure it has not slipped out of the pci card slot.
Hi
Does sound like your USB hub controller has lost power.
Best to contact VAIO-Link for a repair
this is the in built usb ports there is nothing wrong with the actual hardware side of the ports i think it is the usb2.0 drivers that come with xp when microsoft relased sp2 and some of the vaio like mine come with it preinstalled now.so you cant just roll back the driver to sp1 . thank you for your suggestions and trying to help if you have any other ideas i would glad to hear them.
the other devices that dispeared of the pc via usb are the card readers that come with the pc i did check all connections were properly connected so it is not that ... it is more like when they first released xp and no one could get there devices shown with in well same problem here but microsfot solution was sp1 and it actually worked then they rolled sp2 and not just me from what i have been reading a whole bunch of poeple have had the same issue.. so this convinces me more that this is a driver issue/ sp2 .. im just hoping that someone else has had this issue and managed to resolve it in some way
but i do very much appreciate the ideas you both have given so far maybe im over looking something some where 😞
 HTH
I have an idea on what might resolve this issue.
To be quite honest the Microsoft drivers are pretty cr4p for USB transfers anyway, and are pretty bad in service pack 2.
The alternative is to use OrangeWare drivers. Belkin USB cards (PCI/PCMCIA etc) all use these new drivers as the alternative to the Microsoft Drivers as they are more stable and a lot faster (I know its quite ironic really!).
Your VAIO is a PCV-RS702, but when I looked at the specifications sheet it does not tell me the name of the motherboard's manufacturer.
If you can please obtain Lavalys Everest Home Edition from the supplied link, run Everest, and then in the Motherboards section, can you tell me the make of the motherboard?
Once I have this information I will be back and post a link here with the relevant OrangeWare USB drivers for you to try.
This is worth a shot.
Motherboard:
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)
Motherboard Name Asus P4SD-VL
Motherboard Chipset Intel Springdale i865PE
System Memory 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type AMI (09/14/04)
the above is the information on the motherboard type thanks for the help with this issue got to say it has been driving me insane
Thankyou for the information.
I have just uploaded the required driver to my website.
It is the automatically extracting and installing type, and it contains the OrangeWare USB Drivers.
These should provide enhanced stability and faster transfer rates. The driver file is called OUSB.INF in case you need to
reinstall it.
Enhanced OrangeWare USB 2.0 Drivers [XG Systems]
Hopefully it should cure your problem.
This driver has been used by Belkin so it is very good.
If you still have USB power issues, you will have to send the unit back to VAIO-Link.
Best of luck with this!!!
