Vaio AR31S 1080p?

Which HD setting does my AR31S support? 1080i, 1080p or less?
How do I find out? I cant find any official specification for this.
I'm just trying to justify splashing out on a 1080p television.
Also, what does the PS3 output?

PS3 can achieve 1080p but i don't know bout the VAIO but there are plently of people on here that own one and would certainly be able to help.

If you do get the TV make it a Sony Bravia 37"+ for best quality pic!

the vaio can support 1080p but you need to apply a little tweak as described here. hope this helps

It's a display driver issue?

What signal does the HDMI port output then?

Your laptop will output at 1080p or 1080i. if you have vista installed with std sony drivers it will only output 1080i. With the tweaked nvidia drivers as per the referenced thread, it will support 1080p.

Note that for the best quality picture you will need to output at 1080p to a 1080p supported tv. The sony vaio w and x series are good bets, the bigger the better.

there is only so much info your eyes can take in, so to take full advantage of a 1080p picture you need to sit very close to the tv or get a big screen.

The AR31S outputs HDMI 1.2 supporting HDCP.

The resolution limitation is purely a nVidia driver issue - the latest WinVista drivers support 1080p but these have not been officially tested by Sony yet. Even so, plenty of us are running the beta drivers and reverting to the latest Sony driver would not be a problem.

I have problems with a Sharp 720 LCD with HDMI. It just will not connect. Is it possible the AR31S will only output to a 1080 TV. I though it downscaled automatically

Can someone please tell me what i need to record TV from Sony Bravia to my ar31s, do i need just an hdmi lead which will give me sound and picture, or go down the svideo lead and audio lead route, thanks in advance for any reply,

Hi cosra1 and welcome.

You do not need the Bravia to record TV because your AR31S has its own TV Tuner and will give much better quality recording on its own. Just add an ariel and run Media Centre TV Setup. You cannot easily record on your AR31S using the Bravia's Tuner.

If you want to play back your recordings on your Bravia, then you need a HDMI cable. The HDMI socket is an output only - you cannot import through this connection and would need to use s-video.
