When I use the Recovery CD and choose the option to restore individual applications (I need to restore Giga Pocket), I get this error window appear with a red 'X':
"Cannot get the information required for installation"
The same happens when I try to restore all applications.
If I go to Start>Programs>Sony Vaio>Vaio System Info, no entries appear in the info.
Apparently my PC has forgotten it's a Vaio.
Please understand, I don't want to do a clean installation and lose days worth of settings, when just a registry modification would restore this data. Please tell me where to re-enter the info the recovery CD is looking for.
And who said mine wasn't a new model???
I am an older mdel
The Sony Shared Libraries are the routines that identify your Sony as a Sony
So they're definately not on the VAIO-Link website?
Have you tried re-flashing the BIOS?
Definitely not on the Sony UK VAIO Link for my model. Anywhere else to get the *correct* ones for the PCV-RZ322? Seems silly as I have them here on CD!
How would I go about flashing the BIOS?
If you go to VAIO-Link.com, login as VAIO User and enter your serial; go to downloads. You should see a BIOS update. Next to it is a readme file explaining how to do it. Please read that file a few times.
You shouldn't flash the BIOS for this issue - have a look on the Vaio-Link site, they may have the Sony Shared Libraries and utilities available for download from there.
When I log in with my serial it takes me to the UK part of VAIO Link where no BIOS updates or Libraries are available.
Is there a simpler way to extract the libraries from my CD?
Not that I can tell you. The only remaining hope is that someone with the same computer can direct you to the appropriate link at ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/SSLib/ (If it's there)
Bar that, it looks like you'll have to perform a full recovery
Thanks. What would happen if I tried one of the ones there? Any way to guess/work out which is the right one?
