I have a PCV-RX305 Sony Vaio PC, and it says that I can upgrade from 256Mb upto a maximum of 1536Mb (yes it's an old computer) Misco reccomends I upgrade with a 512Mb pc-2100 DDR SDRAM module into slot 2 and leave slot 1 with the 256mb in aswell. is this ok ??/
Hi satch2107,
In theory that configuration should not cause any problems if the existing and new memory modules are compatible.
What is Misco quoting for the 512 MB module? Crucial are offering a 1 GB DDR PC2700 module for £49.34.
Hi satch2107
Yes that should be ok..
The the specs state your RX305 uses PC-2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM, and has 3 slots, one currently containing the 256mb module.
You may want to also have a look at Cruical.com several members have bought extra RAM from crucial and another benefit from buying from Crucial is there memory compatibility guarantee.
Also you may find this guide, from Sony, on how to upgrade your Vaio's memory of interest..
misco is selling this at about £45 plus vat., wished i'd asked sooner about this as I have ordered one a 512mb from misco now
does the pin number have to be really adhered to as mine is i think 168pin and those suggested are refering to 184 pins or higher
does the pin number have to be really adhered
according to this website address you gave me for "crucial.com" I can use this compatible module for upgrading my computer memory" 1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module " even though it is pc-2700 and not pc-2100 ,is this correct and given the pin number of 184 instead of 168 pin.
Hi satch2107,
Have you run the Crucial System Scanner as Rich suggested, this will analyses your computer memory information and suggests an upgrade that's guaranteed compatible...
even though it is pc-2700 and not pc-2100...
many thanks for all the help .now sorted okay.
