Vista Hotkey Fix

HI There,

Have got everything running well now on Vista and performance is good too.

Just can't sort the hot key fix.

I have completed as directed the directions in the V large post, the steps outlined below and it only worked for 5 minites and then stopped:

You MUST install the following:
~ Setting Utility Series
~ Shared Library
~ Utilities
~ VAIO Event Service

After installing, reboot your notebook. Then grab the Sony Notebook Control Device update from Microsoft at this link:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/7816_2_a5db7ce11f55024ce049b...

I have tried it multiple times and I'm notting any result at all.

Also when I did get it to work the screen brightness controls only went up one level and down one level.

Any ideas to resolve this?

Thanks,

NT

Hi NT,

I’m uncertain as to whether this is the resolution to your problem but the utilities must be installed in a set order followed by a reboot and you may need to repeat the procedure more than once.

1 Sony Utilities.
2 Sony Shared Library.
3 Vaio Event Service.
4 Setting Utility Series (not sure that this one is really necessary but will do no harm).

I'm also having problems getting Hotkeys to work.

Does Sony Utilities refer to the Sony Utils DLL download or does it refer to the Utilities installation that came with my original XP disk?

Hi Rich, MaD Mat,

have gone through it a few more times and third is the charm.

Still not fully right though. Sound controls and mute work, but brightness is showing empty or 1 bar; and thats as far as it goes - and full brights all the time.

Hot key used to also reduce the volume bar in sonic stage - and thats not working anymore either.

Same as previous install.

The GeForce monitor is showing a generic monitor rather then sony vaio laptop display; but it is working.

Anyway - better then not working at all - Mute works!

Thanks for the asitance - and if you have any other suggestions please pop them out....

Hey,

Did you just follow the procedure to get the hotkeys working?

Is Sony Utilities just the DLL download?

Any assistnace would be appreciated, im determined to get my VAIO fully operational under VISTA!

Hi MadMattUK,

Yes it's the Sony Utilities DLL..

yeah mate - I followed the procedure -

I would say its 65% working.

Still seems a little unclear why the brightness element is not functioning right -

I just loaded the sony dll.

That was all there was on my Vista driver upgrade site.

Let me know how you get on...

Hi nftallon,

I would say its 65% working.

That's better, but it should work 100%. I suggest that you open a case with support as the procedure described should restore all functions. You have paid good money for your machine and should expect all of the included functions to work.

Support will initially ask you to restore your machine using the recovery media (to eliminate third party software as the cause), so be prepare for this - backup important data!!
