I got a sony vaio e series for christmas and got a virus. I foolishly didnt do media recovery before i got the virus and now it wont let me go online or use media recoery. what do i do?
Hi Sandford5187,
I suggest that you return your machine to “As Delivered” by carrying out a factory reset using the hidden recovery partition. Be aware that you will lose all personal data.
To recover from the
recovery area
On models with the ASSIST button
1 Press the ASSIST button while your
computer is off to launch
VAIO Care Rescue.
2 Click Start recovery wizard.
To perform the custom recovery, select
Tools and click
Start advanced recovery wizard.
3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
On models without the ASSIST button
1 Turn on your computer and press the F10
key several times before the VAIO logo
screen disappears.
If the Edit Boot Options window is
displayed, press the Enter key.
2 Select Start recovery wizard.
To perform the custom recovery, select
Tools and click
Start advanced recovery wizard.
3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
Thanks for replying Rich, the problem is it is asking me for a drive to save the data and i do not want to save anything. I want to bring it back to factory settings but will not allow me without having 35.48gb of saved memory. What do i do?
This is a new one on me – must be a recent introduction...
Are you able to access a Custom Recovery via Tools > ‘Start advanced recovery wizard’ without first having to perform a backup?
If not then I suggest that you borrow an external USB drive and allow it to go through the motions.

Are you able to press skip to bypass this stage..:smileyconfused:
