Hi all,

i have a sony vaio pcg c1-vj /bp with win xp and i want to reinstall it. Win ME or Win XP don't matter. I have a Sony DVD Rom Drive PCGA-DVD1, it's connected with ILink to the subnotebook. The problem is that its not booting, i've put the boot device on the top but still not working. I've tried so much things, can anyone help me or advice me??

i habe ein sony vaio pcg c1-vj /bp mit win xp drauf und ich will es neuinstallieren. Win ME oder win xp ist egal was drauf soll. Dazu habe ich ein dvd rom LW pcga-dvd1, verbunden mit ilink. Ich kriege es aber nicht gebootet von cd warum auch immer. auch im bios habe ich es umgestellt aber nix geht. Kann mir jemand helfen??

Hi Valento,

You cannot boot any Vaio through the firewire (i-link) connection. There are just two ways to boot externally.

If I remember correctly, the old C-Series Vaios came with an external CD-ROM drive which was connected to a card inserted in the PC Card slot. This is the ONLY way you can boot a C-Series Vaio from an installation CD. I don't know if you can still get these. e-Bay?

It is also probably possible to boot from a 3.5" Floppy drive connected by USB but you would need the OS on floppy discs.

Hi Blencogo,

i don't have a pcmcia card which is connected with the dvd rom, would it be possible to boot from an one GB memory stick?
