FZ11L SCREEN PROBLEM!!!

I got my FZ11L in this Aug,and I turned it on yesterday,after 5mins I found out my whole screen went BLACK!!!! The screen was just like a mobile went dark without your background light but still able to see it under sunshine or lamp( in my case..Yeah...I use lamp!).I was shocked, and restarted it, but things happend again.However,I can see my BRIGHT screen again after turn down the screen and lift up my laptop to copy down my serial number.Untill now it works fine...

The thing is, my friend told me that I cannot send this laptop back to SONY as after they turn on my laptop and they cannot see a problem with it and will send it back straight away. The most irratate part is I cannot get this "baby" perfect and got a big potential that I may pay extra after 1 year! My last SONY laptop got the same problem but only after I had using it for 5 yrs,so I really don't bother to replace a second hand screen about 200 quid.

Another friend told me the cause of this might be the unstable of electricity ,I doubt it though. By the way..there was no flashing,no strange sound ,just turn to dark, simple!

Is there anybody has this kind of problem before? Should I just hope whether that was a joke I had or just wish it can go dark completely within my 1 year warranty? Haha..

well...By reviewing Number that I can tell loads ppl actually seen my post...unfortunately,nobody answeres me...

Anyway,I just experienced the 3rd time "no background light" even but I folded my screen down and up,Yeah....it did the trick. But still...what's wrong with my laptop?

It seems lots ppl facing minor and all sorts of problem with FZ series...Now I am thinking about maybe I bought the wrong model indeed.

Hello..guys..it's me AGAIN!!!

I've made a phone call to VAIO support centre yesterday,and the young lady asked me to tap F10 and do the recovery stuff which let me back to the original setting from factory, and told me they are going to call me on Monday. My question is...is it really necessary to erase all my data to solve my screen problem? Does anyone know this? Seems only ppl are reading my post but no reply....
Moreover, one of my speaker seems having the sharp and broken voice...Yes...All happened less than 3 months...

Your screen problem sounds like a bad/loose electrical connection to me - that is why it is intermittent and gets cured by you 'jiggling' the Vaio. It is very likely that you will have to return it to Sony to check the connections or repair the problem. The sound problem could have a similar cause.

Although it is unlikely, it could be a problem caused by software you have added to the Vaio and the only way to eliminate this cause is for you to back up your data and then carry out a recovery back to factory settings. If the problem continues, it must be hardware. I know it is catch 22 but it will be necessary before it can go for repair.

Haha..Finally.....Blencogo heard me!!!THANK YOU!!!
Now I see the point why the young lady asked me to do the whole thing,and I don't think it's somthing wrong with my software...
I'll back up all my data,and Just ask a rather stupid question again? Even though I used it for a period, can I still make recovery discs?DVDs?+RW?-RW?How many discs do I need?

Hi Vivi4ever,

I don't think it is your software either - just a loose wire!

Yes, you should still be able to make a set of Recovery Discs. You must use DVD+R or DVD-R. You cannot use rewritable discs.

Some Vaios need three discs and some just two - so have at least three handy. If I were you, I would make two sets.

Go to Vaio Recovery Utility and choose to make a Recovery Media Kit.

I'm sure you understand that the Recovery Discs will only contain the contents of your Recovery Partition, so they will not back up anything you have added since you bought the Vaio.

Just got a phone call from VAIO and the gent told me they are going to pick my laptop on this Wednesday by DHL. The guy told me there is a possiblity that I have to pay something for example about the motherboard even I am still within the warranty!!!

Anyway,they are going to examing my laptop throughly and hopefully I don't have to pay for extra and they can repair everything and send me back real fast!!!

I'll report the progression later on.

I've been waiting for DHL to collect my laptop for the whole day.I even called DHL (Yeah.0870 again) and they kept transferring me to different departments but no one actually solved my problem by me only holding the Ref No, which the sony technicial gave it to me.

Fortunately I catched a DHL van driver from the street(it's true!!!) and the guy showed me his monitor and didn't see a thing about collecting a thing from my add.

I phoned SONY right back by holding for 3mins and a young lady told me she didn't know any reason but my order actually didn't get through!!! so we booked on Friday this time, and they are going to call me tomorrow to give me another DHL ref no.

I'm really upset about the whole thing!!!and SONY even didn't notice me about not getting through my order!!!It reminds me of another silly thing as well,which is after I called SONY for the 1st time and left all my details and they told me they were going to call me later and I didn't get any calls but a 3rd party thing like a man was asking me loads of questions about the servercies and products of sony and letting me rate them as well.And I got e-mails from sony told me that they phoned me but found out my phone number was incorrect!!!That's ridiculous!!!even the 3rd party of SONY can get through me but sony cannot!!!!


I am really upset about this!!!SIGH!!!!
