FE41E Vista Screen res changing

My new Vista FE41e has a couple of annoying issues. The screen res changes intermittently when I close the lid and then restart. Also MyClub Vaio runs and eventually hangs without completing its update.
Anyone else had these problems and know of a fix?

I would have searched this forum , but the search doesn't appear to work!

Hi, I am getting exactly the same issue with my FE41M. Screen resolution is set correctly, but if I close the lid, when I open it again and press the power button, the screen resolution changes. I then have to go and set the correct resolution again.

I suspect it's more to do with the graphics drivers vs Vista than anthing specifically with the FE41, but it's a major PITA.

Try this, see if it works

My VAIO computer is unstable when I use the Wireless LAN function in battery mode.

Using the Wireless LAN feature when the computer is running on battery can cause the system to become unstable when going into standby and resuming the system. Symptoms are blue screens, operating system reboot or system freezing.

Solution:

Affected models:

VGN-FE-series

VGN-SZ -series

To avoid this problem (temporary workaround):

1. Click Start, Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel dialog box, click Performance and Maintenance, System.
3. The System Properties dialog box appears, click the Hardware tab.
4. In the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
5. In the Device Manager locate the Network Adapter category in the list and expend it.
6. In the Network Adapter category, double click Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.
7. Select the Advanced tab and select the Power Management option in the list.
8. Deselect the Default check box and set the option to level is MAX.
9. Click OK to apply the new settings.

No Clare, that doesn't make any difference. This is ridiculous! Don't Sony check that their laptops work properly before supplying them to the shops???

I've escalated this problem to Sony as an urgent request.

Hopefully we will get an answer - there is obviously a fault in the nVidia driver.

Seems that there are a "few" issues with Vista at the moment, is it a compatability problem with Vaios or is Microsoft selling the bread before it's cooked again? It's all about dough

Think I'll stay with XP 'til the merde stops hitting the fan, sorry to those of you that havn't :slight_frown:

I have the same problem, and another one too: I set the default behaviour for closing the lid to "no action". Instead the screen goes blank and stays that way even after reopening the lid. The only way to get out of this situation is hard reboot.

For the other problem with the screen resolution: there is already an updated driver available on the site.
Check "updates" and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I'm *really* thinking of uninstalling this Vista-sh*t. It works slow, and the process list after a clean boot is really scandalously long. Another fine sample of Micro$oft-crap. The only reason I paid for my FE-41S is for the 2 gig RAM, 160Gb HDD and updated video-chip.

On top of that, I just discovered another misfit of this sad, sad piece of junk: The Bluetooth-stack has completely changed, so almost nothing works under Vista!! I couldn't connect to my GPS transceiver, organizer, ... The internet is full of complaints about this.

And if this weren't enough, I'm now stuck for several hours on the application restore, which seems to hang on the trial of Office 2003. I don't need it, but there's no way I can stop VARU.EXE from executing. I searched the registry, tried msconfig.exe.... nothing works! So I figured: just let it install, then uninstall everything. But no!!!! Even this won't work.

I'm sad :slight_frown:
