I have recently been prompted in my system tray to apply the latest vista updates, together with an optional graphics card update for my nvidia 8400gt.I allowed them all since i expect it to be pretty standard, and awaited the restart only expecting to have to alter my resolution.
Since i have restarted my notebook seems to barely function.Whilst i still am able to connect to the internet, it is impossible to open basic programmes.Even paint did not open to paste a screenshot of my problem into. When i try to open the computer folder i get an error message as below.
c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or a network. Please check to make sure the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.
Im going to try and restore to before i had accepted the update. Please can anyone help.
My laptop is a vaio fz11z.
I should also mention my entire desktops icons have disappeared, aswell as everything being painfully slow.
Yeah I did the same thing installing the vista update for the NVidia graphic card and I'm a CVE...duh.
From years of experience it is always best to stick to the sony Vaio Link prescribed updates. If you have trouble with your normal system restore being interfered with by Nortons then tap F10 and go part of the way into your full system recovery and navigate to the system restore in the recovery dialogue pane. It will give you a trouble free system restore even more driver unhindered than the safe mode system restore which also tends to be buggerd up by nortons.
Of course also uncheck the box for the Vista Nvidia driver update...it reduced my 17" monitor to a 13" and wouldn't shutdown. bad news but others have had it working fine so....it depends on you set up I guess.
