Hi, just reinstalled using recovery disc (only the system one)
and now i can read cds and dvds, but i cant burn dvds atleast (havent tried cds yet)
my drive is displayed at the correct modelname, but only as a cd-rom (not dvd-rom)
im pretty sure ive had this problem before somehow when i mixtured with the recovery disc sets, some driver issue i guess.
ive unpacked the contents of the crappy "Application recovery" disc which i would hate to have to install, can i find anything here that can help me get things sorted with the dvd-rom? how about installing Roxio or something else from all these extracted cabs?
as it is now everything else is working fantastic, i reinstalled because i upgraded the HDD in the vaio to a new seagate momentus 7200.2 (fantastic drive, great speed and low noise)
i dont want to format my drive again, and im 100% certain that i dont have to.
anyone have any suggestions to give? am i on the right track checking through the app recovery disc, or do i need to find a dvd-driver elsewhere?
Windows XP alone does not support DVD burning as it does not include any DVD authoring software.
Your drive relies on third party DVD software to be able to work with DVDs so you will have to install something like Roxio, Nero or WinDVD for your drive to be recognised as a DVD-RW drive.
I have both Nero 7 and Alcohol 120%, none of it works, sorry for not including that in my first post, any other ideas on what i wrote?
Hi Smilfink,
Have you tried uninstalling the drive in Device Manager, followed by a reboot? This may possibly reinstall all the correct drivers.
Tried deleting driver and restart, same thing..
tried installing firmware update to GFS3, same thing still...
why oh WHY is my drive recognized as a cd-rom and not dvd-rom?!
i can burn cds
i can read cds
i can read dvds
i cannot still burn dvds..
i dont want to install the application recovery disc, the system recovery disc should be more then enough
aaarghh help me
