DVD Drive failed to recognise any DVD-R Discs

DVD Failure.
The Sony PCV-W2 fitted DVD drive, failed to recognise the eProformance 4.7gb 2X DVD-R Version 2 disc. When I inserted it into the Sony Drive on the machine while using the `Click to DVD¿ program. It immediately issued the message¿ `Insert a Recordable DVD disc into the drive¿, even though I allowed plenty of time for the disc to be recognised. This same message is applied to all DVD-R discs I have used from a variety of manufacturers. To date I haven¿t tried a DVD+R disc as I only use the DVD-R system on my other machines.

I have created a successful DVD Using `Click to DVD¿ and an alternative USB DVD Writer, and one of my eProformance 4.7gb 2X DVD-R Version 2 discs.
I have tried many different types including Ritek, but to no avail.
Any suggestions.

Concerning compatibility between burners and media I advise this site :
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia

Did you try to upgrade the firmware of your burner ?
Which brand and model is your burner ?

If your firmware version is not 2.5b, just give a try at this page :
http://www.css.ap.sony.com/VAIO/download/summary.asp?Id=000000000002215

Perhaps you should also try :
http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/select/select.asp?l=en&m=1553
Click to DVD Upgrade Program (1.4.04.07210) : this version is from August 2nd.

Another question : could you see the contents of the DVD with the Windows explorer ?

Many Thanks for the info. Jeje. I have downloaded and installed the upates but one would have thought that buying a brand new machine at least the basics should work. I have now been in touch with Sony and I have an issue number. Before they will act on the possibility of a faulty drive, I have to go through the trouble of re-installing the whole machine, then the updates and try again without any of my own software in place. But if the machine doesn't work without my own software... I don't think I shall be at all pleased after spending so much on it.
