Connecting to TV over HDMI - no sound, copy protection error

I have a Vaio AR31S and a 32D3000 Sony TV.
I have two problems when I connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI

1) I cannot play a Blu-ray disc using WinDVD. I get a copyright protection error from WinDVD.
2) There is no sound whatsoever going through to the TV via the HDMI connection (eg when I play a music file using Windows Media Player).

I have applied all patches that Sony have released, most notably
1) InterVideo WinDVD BD Update Patch 8.0.08.416_2
2) HDMI Software Update Version 071025a

Patch 2) was supposed to fix the "no audio through HDMI" bug, and I followed the steps exactly and got all the expected messages etc, and finally rolled back the display driver, just like the instructions say (not sure why this is needed, it's not explained).

What can I do to solve these?

I've searched on here for the past 10 minutes and can't find the answer.

Please help.

I've managed to get Blu-Ray working. Need to set it such that the TV is the ONLY display. Not Laptop/TV mirrored.

Still cant get the sound to work via HDMI though 😞

Hi jeffer,

Have you switched the output to digital?

Control Panel -> Audio

and set the default to SPDIF/HDMI

I managed to get this to work in the end by installing the audio driver update for the AR51S.

After installing and rebooting, audio worked over HDMI.

I don't know why the driver was not on the AR31S page - it's obviously needed as well.
