Hi guys new here, just wondered if any of you had seen the price for the sony hmzT1? was about to preorder as had seen the us price.
This price in america is $799 which is about £506, yet the uk price has been revealed and its £799!!!!
And £799 is $1259.54 !!! My question would be to sony as to why the price is so high for the uk
Solved! Go to Solution.
Its worth noting that advertised US prices never include sales tax which can be up to 20% whereas UK retail prices are always advertised inc VAT.
Just to be clear, all dealers are free to set their own prices in the UK, they are not controlled by Sony.
thanks
Hi,
well you answered your own question really the Dollar is worth 1.57743 against the british pound so yes the head unit will be cheaper over there!
This is standard operating procedure. $1 = £1 in the market place. You'll find this with just about everything. Try importing one, and you'll likely get hit with a massive duty. I've no idea if this has something to do with the US protecting its market or what, but it's been going on for as long as I can recall despite the anger it generates. Get used to it.
dealers have to take into account what sony charge them so sony do have a lot of control.
20% sales tax doesn't come close to the 50% extra we have to pay (still annoys me though i should know better).
the extra isn't even shipping because the chance these are made in the US is nil.
