Hi,

yes if you want to go the wireless route then you will need the UWA-BR100 dongle, no other dongle will work with this tv, however you should be able to connect to the internet using an ethernet cable as your tv is equipped with an ethernet port on the rear panel.

I have bought the 40CX523 and am now looking to use it for iplayer etc. but have noticed many people have said that the UWA-BR100 does not pick up the signal very well if the router is not in the same room as the TV.

Why is this given that a. it's expensive and b. Sony have blocked you from using other dongles to pick up wi-fi??

Hi

BR100 works perfectly well - wireless is a funny beast at the best of times so there are any number of reasons why it's not working for some users, maybe down to the strength of the signal from their router, thickness of walls, interference etc. Could always use Homeplugs instead.

Its not a case of blocking 3rd party dongles from working  - simply a case that the TV isn't a PC which has driver support for pretty much every dongle available as well as support for Windows OS which of course TV's don't. All CE manufacturers, (Samsung, Panasonic Sony etc) have simply built or licensed  their own dongle which they know will work with their products.

Hope this helps

Thanks

If you have an internet ready TV and BD player do you need 2 dongles?

Thanks Dave C

Hi,

no, ones enough, just use it in the device that has the most features, when it comes to updates just connect the dongle to either device and update it.

Guys you don't need a sony dongle....any wireless ethernet adapter will work as it just needs an ethernet port on the back of the sony tv to work and does not need drivers.

I have a netgear one from 3 years ago and works on anything.

Something like this for example

hi, hope its ok to jump in on this, i have the same wireless adpator and do find its signal strength poor compared to my xbox thats next to it, also a type N dongle, and just recently i can get the tv to connect to iplayer or youtube as the signal just drops to nothing from 1 or 2 bars, yet i can stream sky movies from xbox no proble from the same router upstairs

these dongles are renowned for poor signal and was considering the homeplug route but interested in the above suggestion and i do have an ethernet port, any suggestions as to what the best route would be?

many thanks

Hi,

Homeplugs come recommended by Catmambo as a good alternative to the dongle, but you can get a much better and more reliable connection with a wired ethernet cable.
