BDP-S590 Blu-Ray Player linked to Sony Vaio PC

I have just installed my BDP-S590 and connected it wirelessly to my network. All basically OK. Playing DVDs, watching iPlayer, Lovefilm are fine. Various other links are visible for both video and music.The operating system is up-to-date. The problem is seeing stuff on my PC. I can view videos from my PC without problem. The Windows Media Player icon is always visible when my PC is active. Sometimes I can view photographs. Once I was able to play music from the PC, but never again. Currently the PC icon is only visible for video. There is no icon for the PC on either Photo or Music. Is this a fault or is there something I am missing?
