I have just purchased a new XR-65A90J Android TV. I have registered it on the site giving the appropriate serial number. Is this all that needs to be done? Do I get an email from Sony?
Hi BroadmarshGeezer, try to contact Sony support directly just to be confirmed that it is registered.
Naturally, it is registered. It was just that I expected to get a confirmation email to the effect that the product was covered by their 5-year guarantee. Peace of mind.
Just about every other manufacturer does this.
Thanks
I didn’t with my a9 either - you have to contact them directly and they are prepared to send an email or written guarantee; but you’ll have to provide proof of purchase (vat receipt) and serial number screenshot (from the tv itself). I had to call them about 5 times, and you’ll wait several weeks, but persistence pays off.
You can contact Sony on 0207 365 2810 to request it.
Thanks. They (Sony) are poor at communication when it comes to follow-up action such as this.
In my opinion, they should do it automatically on registration.
Actually, there's a reason for this; unlike other manufacturers, Sony doesn't require you to register for the standard warranty.
The registration on the website is solely for keeping track/locking down the serial numbers to your account and getting updates/information specific to your devices.
And the reason you need to send the receipt is because there's a different kind of registration for the extended warranty, which can only be done directly through support.
It's painless and I actually prefer that to having to register every single warranty-protected product, but retailers usually don't even tell you that an extended Sony warranty needs registration; so I've seen this a lot (especially when new models are released).
Hope this helps!

Thanks. I am now even more confused by your answer.
What is a standard warranty?
What is an extended warranty?
Which one is the 5-year warranty?
If I need to send in the receipt for the warranty, to whom do I send it to?
THe address please?
The standard warranty is the regular 1-2 years that is supplied with any Sony purchase.
Extended warranty is anything you buy extra/5 years promotion which comes free with some TV models.
If you buy extra you get a code which you can register online yourself. As for the extended 5 years one, you'll need to contact the Sony support reps to have that registered.
Hope this helps!

The response back from Sony and the retailer by email is as follows for the XR65-65A90J:
Once the purchaser has created a Sony account, and registered the TV online it is recorded electronically and a 5-year manufacturer's warranty is supplied.
Thank you
Reposted because of a typo with the model type. Sorry!
