A580 - unable to install downloaded PMB/IDS software

Hi

I have an A580 which I bought secondhand in the summer from London Camera Exchange which did not have the software CD. I downloaded the PMB and IDS software from the Sony site as per the instructions and everything was fine. I then had to replace the computer and I now have one running windows 7 64 bit. According to the website this is a compatible OS. I have downloaded both sets of software as per the instructions, and both give me the same error message "PMB_5802.exe is not a valid win32 application" and "IDS32... is not a valid Win32 application". Am I doing something wrong or is there a different file which I should be downloading?

Any help gratefully received

thanks

Paul

Yes I know these are for the A77, but they work with all Sony Alpha's:

Download IDS4 from here:

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/SLT-A77V/downloads/SW_IMAGE_DATA_CONVERTER_V40_WIN

Follow the procedure here to get PMB, you need the camera connected:

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/SLT-A77V/downloads/download_manager

Also install this to see your RAW files in Windows thumbnails etc.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit Professional Service Pack 1 and have never installed PMB.  To ensure the instructions work I have just followed that procedure and it worked for me.

Sounds like the .exe is corrupt/being corrupted during download.  Delete the existing .exe you have downloaded and clear Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet Files, restart Internet Explorer before starting the download again.

If that doesn't work then try installing an alternative browser, such as Firefox (set that browser to be the default one).

Hi

Well half is better than none! The Image Data converter has downloaded

- thanks - but I'm still getting the error message "PMB_5802.exe is not a valid win32 application" :slight_frown:

for the PMB program

Does anyone have any further ideas?

thanks
