Instead of spending money on RAM

Instead of spending money on RAM, are the memory management softwares any good? You know, the ones that free more physical memory for you.

I'm using one called FreeRAM (and the software IS free, hence the name) are these sort of software really good and useful? Basically (by default) when the physical RAM goes anywhere below 31MB and the CPU is less than 15% it tries to free the RAM - sometimes it leaves you with about 120MB free instead of 30MB free.

I know that buying RAM does have a good effect on performance but it is VERY expensive, so could FreeRAM help? Does anyone know if it makes any difference to performance?

And I just found one here through google, same name and better interface  http://www.bysoft.com/freeram.asp

I used to use one, but it crashed Windows.
If you can afford RAM, it worth getting, otherwise use software.

It's useful, but it's no competition to RAM. If you have lots of programs running that use a small amount of RAM, and you're closing/opening others and so on then it can manage them much better than Windows and give you a nice boost. However if you have something like a RAM-heavy game or video editing software then it will have no effect at all, as the program will simply use everything.
