Xperia XA1

I've had my XA1 for two years and it gives great service

BUT

a few weeks back I have been invaded with ads and they appear regularly.

I followed Sony UK's instructions to the letter but they had no effect and was told in this case

to contact Google.

Has anybody got this same problem ?

Yes, I do believe it will.

Just make sure to backup your data before you do that.

Hello @rickety79

Can you try to boot your device to safe mode? Just long press the power off option. Once in safe mode , observe if the ads still pop up. If not, the ads are most likely because of an app the you recently installed or updated

Strangely I can't get into Safe Mode. Long press just opens or closes as normal.

Hi @ rickety79,

You can enable safe mode from the instructions here

For the Ads issue, did you try clearing the history of the browser?

Clear cache and data and force stop for the Google Chrome?

Thankyou for the help.

I have successfully activated Safe Mode and carried out the instructions to clear history, cache and force stop Chrome - but to no avail.  Have also uninstalled the last 5 apps so puzzled !

Reluctant to do so but wonder if a Factory Reset will solve the problem ?

Yes, a full re-set seems to have 'slain the dragon' (so far at least)

A pretty drastic step as several apps get deleted but the effort in 'starting again' has proved worth it and has the side affect of ridding myself of a few unused apps in the process.

So once again I am back to being a happy bunny.
