TEXT BUTTON ON REMOTE NOT WORKING

The green text button on the remote control (RMT-TX440E) not working. The LED flashes white but the text menus do not appear on the screen. The remote has the latest software version available. TV model is XR42A90K.

I have the same TV.

If you mean the text service provided by the BBC this is no longer available in newer TVs .

If you have recently bought this TV it may be you are expecting to get the same text service that your older TV had.

In 2019 the BBC said it was going to stop its red button text service.

So TV manufacturers took this and decided not to install the necessary decoder to provide the text service.

in new model TVs.

But along came the pandemic and public opinion and the BBC decided to keep the text service for the foreseeable future.

Sadly it is not something that can be fixed by a software update.

I have three Sony TVs both older than the XR-42A90K and both receive the BBCs text service but not the newer much more expensive XR42.

Disappointing I know, don't know if newer models of Sony (2023 onwards) have restored this function

or if other TV manufacturers have.

Thanks very much for the explanation. It would have helped if there was a sony helpline or e-mail where these problems can be discussed instead of someone like yourself coming up with the answer. Also why supply a remote with a text button that is non functional.
