Tablet Is Sluggish. Backup & Reset?

I've had my tablet since October and noticing that it's getting pretty sluggish. Apps can take ages to open (and often throw a "this app is not responding; do you want to close or wait?" alert.

I thought ICS might improve it, but it's gradually getting worse. I use it heavily, for hours every night, so is this just a side effect of the openness of Android. Do iPads slow down over time?

Is my best solution to do a factory reset? How do I back everything up? I see that it's set to backup to Google's servers, but it doesn't explain how much that "backs up". I don't want to lose my browser settings, saved passwords, bookmarks, home screen layouts, etc. I'd prefer not having to download all the apps again, too.

Any advice would be appreciated.

the best advice is to delete some apps that you don't use, or that use too many resources because they run and restart themselves all the time. poorly programmed apps that you got from google play can do that.

and move some bulky apps to the sdcard part of your tablets memory

this maintenance/memory management is done through Settings/Applications submenus.

only if the problems stay, i would advice factory resetting.

After putting up with the slowness for a few months, I decided to Factory Reset and erase everything on Saturday and my tablet is much more responsive now.

I've only put a handful of apps back on as opposed to the 147 that were installed before.

Previously, when I got home from work and connected online, my tablet would lock up while it fetched my email from Gmail - this is no longer a problem, which I'm super happy about as I literally couldn't do anything: read Twitter, use the Browser, etc, until it had fetched them all.

I wish they didn't slow down over time, but glad that it's reasonably easy to fix. Using App Backup & Restore, and exporting individual app's settings, I was able to get it up and running again pretty quickly.
