XP shut down hangs cannot restart

Hi
Laptop VGN FE21s

I have recently reinstalled Win XP home and all is working fine EXCEPT that when I "Shut down windows" the "save settings" seems OK but I need to hold down the power button to power off. I heard that there was a regedit (or a small software download) that can solve this problem. I have done all the "power options" and closing possible 'hanging' programmes all to no avail. Please can some one assist.

Tim

PS I know that this may have been answered before but cannot find it

Hi Tim,

Although it could be several things, the usual culprit is the Webcam.

Try the Hotfix KB909667 which I have attached at the bottom of this post: -

If that doesn't work, come back and we will try to think of something else.

Many thanks for this hotfix, all loaded and tested and working fine. I had tried all the hardware devices to ensure that they powered off - but somethingwas obviously missing. Thanks again.
