I have an XL201 with Vista Premium. I use the SPDIF optical out for sound to my amplifier.
My amp shows on the front when it is receiving 5.1 and when it is getting sterio.
I play MP3's and I get sterio on the amp. I play some films stored as Matroskavideo and I get 5.1 showing on the amp. But when I play a DVD which says it has 5.1 sound, I only get sterio on the amp. Any ideas why?
Also, do all DVI files only have sterio, or are they capable of 5.1?
Ok, I've done some more testing on this. I took a normal DVD with DD 5.1 sound and played it through VMC. It showed just 2.0 (sterio) on my amp. I then played the same DVD using Arcsoft Total Media Theatre accessed directly from the VMC menu, and it showed 5.1 on my amp.
I have definately gone into settings in VMC and set the speakers setup to 5.1, so what's going on? They must be using the same Audio driver correct? So it must be something in the standard VMC media player, which is Windows Media Player isn't it? I've been into WMP and can't see any settings for 5.1 etc.
Any ideas anyone?
