Hi Suberashii

Does this guide Full instructions to downgrade an AR31M from Vista to XP Pro offer any assistance..?

To be honest not realy...

- I had to download the bluetooth drivers from the toshiba site, that worked for me..

- The camera still isn't working so i am working on that one.

- For my videocard i had to download version 85.13 drivers with the .inf file, that worked for me.

- I am still working on my networkcard, looking for drivers.

- For the WLAN i found some drivers that seems to be working.

- And i am still woking on my shortcut buttons.

Hello,

How did you manage to get xp on your ar31s? I also have this model notebook and tried to downgrade to xp pro, it would get so far and then say it couldn't find the hard drives to install onto? Can you offer me any advice please?

Its got something to do with RAID as XP was never designed with that in mind. Can't remember how to get passed it though. I think when you stick the disc in at the bottom it has a scrolling list of functions that the F1 etx. buttons do. I think there is one that says raid. Don't take my word for it though!

Hi bison1 and welcome.

The problem is that XP has no support for SATA hard drives or for RAID.

You will need to copy the 10 or so SATA/RAID files (iastor.sys, etc) from your C:\Drivers\RAID directory to a 1.44MB Floppy Disc. With the Floppy drive connected by USB you must press F6 when you get to the 'Welcome to Setup' screen in XP. While you are at it, copy the Camera Driver (VCC4) to the disc also because you cannot use the VCC2 driver for the AR21S.

You will also need to download all the Preinstalled XP Drivers and Preinstalled XP Utilities FOR THE VGN-AR21S to get all your devices reinstalled for XP.

You will also need to install KB888111 or you will have no sound in XP.

Have a look at the post suggested by Thalamus earlier in this thread which answers your problem THIS STICKY POST BY COSTASP - you will find it very useful as it will be the same for your model.

It sounds like alot of work to go back to xp. I might just stick with vista

Dont get me wrong i like vista, but it can be hard work sometimes.....

I used to play call of duty UO on my old notebook with xp no probs. Now i cant play it no more on vista (aaaaahhhhh i hear you say...lol) I can live without it though as cod 4 will be out soon hopefully.

Does anyone know when the service pack is due and/or if it will sort vista out?

Thanks for your responses so far and friendly welcome to the forum.

I have an AR31S with Vista installed and it all works perfectly. I don't think I have any issues at all. I know it's a bit different but better to get used to it before you have to when Microsoft withdraw support for XP. Have you installed ALL the updates from Sony and Microsoft.

Mind you, I also have Vaios running XP - so I have the best of both worlds.
