I have recieved my free upgrade for my tx3 however i have heard that the best time to upgrade will be in september. Can anybody please advise me what the best soloution is... i am not in no rush but i suppose a change would be nice
thanks
There isn't an easy answer to this question. From a technical point of view there will always be a reason to delay for longer but things are settling down now. I am running Vista without any problems on one Vaio (but I have cheated and kept XP on two other Vaios so I have the best of both worlds).
Dual-boot is an option if you have enough disc space.
What it will come down to is: -
1. Is my hardware compatible - are reliable drivers available yet?
2. Do I use any software that is not Vista compatible? Am I prepared to buy new versions?
3. Do the Sony Utilities work faultlessly for my model?
The bottom line is that this is YOUR decision. Experiences are mixed - some have no problems, some have everything go wrong. Advice from others is going to be in two camps and you are going to have to decide.
My Opinion? For what it's worth, I would (and do) use Vista on a Vaio that was bought new with Vista installed - but would wait to upgrade a Vaio designed to run with XP until I was sure the bugs have ALL been worked out.
The best time to update to a new operating system is when service pack 1 is released as this addresses the main issues with the orginal version.
As for when sp1 will be available that is another question all together. Some unofficial sources claim it'll be released in Q3 along with Longhorn but Microsoft are yet to comment officially.
Hope that helps!
When SP1 comes out LOL
But if you wait for SP1 you've to pay a lot for Vista.
I think you should update as far as you could.
Vista is better than XP but both are a couple of mistakes.
In one month I'll delete my Windows
thanks for the comments and Blencogo i too would have one vaio that i would be upgrading and my other vaio desktop would remain XP however as i'm not in any rush i think i may wait untill SP1 and then deal with any potential problems from there.
I have my software disc so that won't be going anywhere however am i correct in saying that any attempt to upgrade can be restored back to XP using my back up discs.
So if i do try and fail i can always correct my problem??
If i do do this can i only use my Vista upgrade disc once or as many times as i wish??
