VGN-S5M Its not supposed to do that!!!

I bought my S5M about 2 months ago and upgraded the RAM to 1024MB shortly after. I also upgraded the BIOS etc. fro the website.

Now the Specifications for the Graphics are
Nvidia Geforce Go 6400 with 32MB Ram and up to 128MB using System memory.

I recently noticed that it now believes it has 256MB of graphics memory. I have no idea when this changed, and it initially registered correctly. I have just reinstalled from the recovery partition and that hasn't changed it so it is not a driver problem.

Here are the relevant sections from dxdiag.

It seems to run ok, but this is certainly not correct and I would expect that sooner or later I will find a problem. Anyone have any clue what's going on?

Hi Alexander and welcome to the forum.

This thread from another forum may or may not help to clarify things. Maybe the BIOS update has changed the maximum shared RAM available:smileyconfused:

The version of the 6400 in my laptop has 32MB on board and should be limited to a max of 128MB. This is what was happening at first.

My guess is that the BIOS has messed up what it reports although I guess it is possible that it may really be able to address more.

3D Mark 2003 doesn't seem to like it but it seems to do most 3D stuff fine. (not like I bought it to play games on)

As long as everything is working ok for your usage I would tend to ignore it and put it down to just one more Windows/Sony glitch:smileyrolling_eyes:
