Can't use youtube anymore can't play videos recorded using sony cameras!! Have made sure java script is turned on and have unistalled and reinstalled flash as indictaed on youtube, all was working fine less then a week ago, like most things on this laptop!! Any advice.
Well Youtube uses flash embedded video, which I believe is the quicktime/Sorensen codec. So Youtube failing almost certainly isn't a codec issue, as the sony camera problem suggests. Have you tried an alternative browser? There's a different flash installation for Firefox than for IE, so you could try that - it will tell you if there's a problem with a specific browser installation, or all browser-based video codecs. Could easily be another device failing - do the shipped demo movies play okay in media browser/center?
YouTube failing is probably due to Flash and Vista.... what a nightmare!
Have a look at this link . I appreciate that the initial page refers to audio but the K-Lite Codec Pack may possibly solve your problem...
the demo movies on media player work but nothing else, surely mpg/mpeg are standard, why would they work one week and not the next!
MPEG2 isn't standard or native to Windows, usually people have to pay for this codec, and it usually comes with PowerDVD and WinDVD - but VLC usually plays MPEG2 flawlessly.
