VAIO FX401 Processor Upgrade

I have heard that you can upgrade the original Duron 800 CPU to a Mobe Athlon 1.2Ghz CPU. Anyone any ideas if this is possible? If so where can you get an old CPU in the uK (Not e-bay)

I don't think it's possible as they're different class of CPU.

The problem is they're a different class.

What exactly do you mean by different class?

Class mean that there were different types of CPU by AMD at thr time. There was Duron, Athlon then Athlon XP and now Barton.

Ok so now I understand Class.

BUT if the FX401 has a socket A processor and the Mobile Athlon 1.2Ghz is a socket A processor then am I missing something??.

I have carried out the latest BIOS upgrade and all was well.
I'm still not sure why I can't replace one Socket A processor for another

It's also got to do with FSB and whether the motherboard can handle the cache on the CPU
