upgraded my ram on vgn-fs315e

I upgraded my ram to the theoretical 2GB max, having already upgraded the hard disk to 160GB.

however the system now seems even slower than with the previous 512mb and 160gb setup.

Can someone explain why???

Could be the speed of the RAM. When you upgrade capacity you tend to sacrifice the speed as data can only be writen to the RAM at the same rate. So even if your RAM is the same speed the data can only be written at same rate.

I very much doubt it would be down to the speed of the RAM. What make of RAM did you buy? The first thing to do is rule out that it's faulty. Check out http://www.memtest.org/. Post back with the results.
