Touch Pad not working

HELP

I booted up my Vaio VGN-AR31M and the touch pad will not work

I have re-installed windows vista and the touch pad does not show anywere in device manager or system.

any ideas ??

welcome to Club Caio..

Go to Device manager and expand the Mice and other pointing devices, does it list a pointing device or PS2 mouse.?

The only device that it shows is the external mouse I have had to use.

Thats the problem as far as I can see it no longer sees the touch pad.

Did you use the Vaio Recovery Utility to re-install Vista.?

Yep..

then a very odd thing happened...

while on phone to Sony to report the problem so I could get a fix, I booted it up again and this time it worked !!

and has worked fine since !

very weird it now works again......
