System recovery - first time

Hi I am embarking on a system recovery. I have backed up all my user data, together with essential downloads. One question. I have one system recovery disc that came with the laptop (PCG-GRT815M, XP bought 4 yrs ago) and i want to know if i will have to reinstall XP. I recall that the computer came with XP ready installed, and I do not have a back up disc. Will the recovery leave the Laptop with the XP installed as it was when I bought it?

Can I manually back up the existing XP? If so how?

Hi neil,

The recovery disc should re-install Windows XP Home with SP1 and the pre-installed applications as it was when you first started your Vaio 4 years ago..
