Surround Sound System Issue on AR-21S

Hi All,

Ive just bought a "Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 505-Watt 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System" At the moment im using a direct stereo cable from my laptop to the system but this way i cant use the THX, Dolby Digital and DTS features.

All AR-21 series has a optical out port so Im guessing if I get a fiber optic audio cable and use a toslink optical cable adapter to connect to my laptop's optical out (because there isnt normal optical out on VAIOS). Would this work? OR is there any other way?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hi.

I can't see why it wouldn't work. From your link, I guess you're in the US? I bought a cheap one of these cables from eBay UK:-

It seems like good enough quality, and I noticed a debate from your link, about whether to buy a cheap one, or an expensive one. My reasoning was, that I wanted to test to see whether it worked or not first. Unfortunately, my surround sound order got screwed up, so I cancelled it.

If I were you I'd buy a cheap one from eBay to try it out.
