Sound Suddenly Stopped Working On VGN-AR51M

I got my new Vaio Notebook a few weeks ago with no problems at all and then a few days ago the sound just suddenly stopped working. The sound works fine through headphones if i plug them into my notebook but no sound without them. Can anyone help me??

Have you checked the audio settings have not been reset to factory defaults.?

To change the default audio settings, do the following..

Click Start, then Control Panel.

Click Hardware and Sound, then Manage Audio Devices.

In the sound window click on Playback or Recording tabs to change audio settings..

Can you ensure @ boot you hear the common sound @ VAIO logo?

If no => HW issue (if BIOS in default settings)
If yes => SW issue (check sound driver and settings in OS)
