Replacing parts and warranty

Hi,

I want to replace/upgrade the Matshita OEM UJ-841S Superdrive that came with my VGN-FE11S, but would like to know if doing so would invalidate my 3-year VAIO warranty.

Thanks.

Best,
doonyakka

Hi doonyakka ,

Yes I would say replacing your CD/DVD drive yourself would invalidate your warranty..

If the drive is faulty and as your vaio's in warranty then open a case with Vaio-Link ..

Hi Thalamus,

Thanks for the reply

My drive isn't faulty, I'd just like to replace it with a better drive. I'll get in touch with Vaio-link to see what their policy is on this. If I were to have the drive installed by an authorised Sony dealer, I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. Then again, any excuse to void a warranty...

They don't do upgrades, which is a shame, but yes Thal's right, it would ivalidate the warranty.
