Hi,
Firstly it generally seems you have a great community here.. So now I was wondering if said community could provide me with some assistance
Recently my Vaio began to be very sluggish, taking in excess of 20minutes to fully startup XP, and when it had fully started it struggled to run programs, i.e. video playback was stuttered with a strange metallicaly sounded jerky sound output, and a similiar tale with music playback. So after much annoyance I decided to use the recovery partition to restore it to the factory state incase the problem was caused by an underlying virus that my anti virus software has failed to pick up. Anyway, long story short, pressed F10 to beging recovery procedure and in the starting windows screen an error message came up informing me of an error regarding the acpi.sys file press a key to continue. Pressed a key "setup cannot continue press any key to restart" forever it was stuck in this cycle, alas in my short sightedness I never made a recovery disc, well I did but lost it. So rang Sony support who then sent me a disc free of charge which arrived this morning.
Upon loading the disc it enters the recovery tool which I thought was going to be the end of my woes, however at the point it says "eject disc and press finish, system will restart from recovery partition" again it hangs up on the same screen as before, but now is showing a different error each time I rerun the recovery cd, so far i've had pcmcia.sys and now toside.sys. Does anyone have any idea why such a thing is happening? I should add I ran the hardware diagnostic tool in the recovery utility and an error was found during the surface scan test which it failed.. So is this the route of all my problems, and if so I imagine I will have to arrange pickup?
Apologies for the longwindedness of this post, and i'd appreciate any assistance anyone can provide!!
Thanks, Adam.

Thanks for your reply
Yeah I figured that'd be the case since I continued running the recovery tool until it got off the bit it was stuck on, but kept getting a little further along the bar before coming up saying another file was causing a problem, till it ran out of files, then just gave me the dreaded blue screen 😞
Thanks for your help regarding the matter though Much appreciated!
You're welcome..
