PCG-FR215H wont read dvd's burned on the internal Toshiba SDR-6012

Sorry if this question is already in the forums. It is a bit annoying that you can search them since there are so many threads. Anyway, my PCG-FR215H wont read the DVD's Im burning with Drag'n drop CD+DVD (or Nero 6). This started to occur after a full recovery. It perfectly reads and writes CD-Rs, and it reads the DVDRs that i burned before the recovery. What happens is the following. The burning process runs fine, but when it is time for verification the drive tries to start the verification for a couple of minutes, ejects the DVDR and shows an alert with the msg "insert the disc. the disc has to be confirmed" and an error code 011-14-1046. after inserting another alert appears saying in brief that writing was successful, but not reading and that the content has to be confirmed. After trying to open the burned DVD win explorer do'nt recognize the disc as a DVDR but a CDR and it displays no files but no error alerts pops up. When Im looking at the surface of the burned DVDR I can see that there are data burned onto the disc. Im also using exactly the same brand of DVDRs as before this problem occured. I've also tried the burned discs in several other DVD players with the sam result.

Try uninstalling Nero.
The less burning software - the easier it'll be to diagnose.

Good media is always very important.

Hi!
just wanted to tell that you are not alone:smileysad:
I have exactly the same problem since 5 days although my burner worked properly for one year.
Got the same pc, I don't use Nero, I burn only Sony media.
I don't think that Sony media are faulty because:
1st: they are from 3 different boxes bought on different days
2nd: they are the most expensive here!
3rd: 100% of the DVDs burned got the problem!!!!!!:smileycry:
Could it be that an automatic update of any software linked with the burner occured on the end of the summer (I was not on the web in august) ?
I hope we find an answer soon,

Thanks!
No, this cannot be media related considering the forum posts I've read on this problem. You may have a point that there may be some automatic updates that mess everything up. Do you have any idea why the problem occured at that specific time? Did you install any automatic updates? Did you make a system recovery?

Im getting a quite annoyed here because I tried to e mail toshiba support, opened a case at Sony e-support and even called toshiba in sweden where I am living and I did'nt get ANY answers at all. the toshiba firmware update is not said to fix this particular problem but the documentation is more or less non-existing.

Im going to call VAIO link regarding this problem on monday. if they can't solve the problem I dont know what to do. it is a pity that there is no documentation how to fix this problem.

Did you make a firmware upgrade ?
On my VAIO (exactly the same model and burner as yours), the original firmware was 1S32.
Perhaps my post :
http://www.club-vaio.sony-europe.com/clubvaio/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=11353
will give you a few ideas.
Whick model of DVD-R or DVD-RW do you use ?
Hope this helped.

Yes ,I finally made the firmware update to 1S34 after my last post. After upgrading I made a DVD with with Click2DVD and it worked! But an attempt to write a DVD with Drag'n Drop failed with the same result as before.
The media I've been trying out are panasonic, fuji and sony, alla capable of writing 1-4x.

Hi all,

For some time I have a similar problem with my FR-415s, the burner is Pioneer DVR-K12D. I can read any DVD-ROM, but all DVD+R disks that I've burnt with the DVD-RW drive cannot be read afterwards. Recording was always successful, using different software, including Nero 6 and the media was Packard Bell DVD+R (2.4x). I've tested recording even at speed of 1x, but still the same problem. The Windows XP Explorer recognises the disk as an empty CD disk, although sometimes Inter DVD Player 4.0 plays the disk without the problem. I've even updated the drive firmware to the latest version 1.10 but nothing has changed. It is strange because a while ago I used to read these disks without a problem and now they always appear to be empty CD's. Do you think this could be a problem with the drive, the DVD media or a software problem.

Thanx!
