i have a VGN-AR31S notebook and a sony bravia KDL40W3000 hdtv and i'm trying to watch a film played through the notebook on the tv. so far i've connected the two together using the cable provided with the tv (VGA) and since this doesn't carry sound i've also connected the two using an audio cable from the earphone socket on the notebook to the audio ports (red and white) on the tv. however whilst the picture is perfect there is no sound on the PC channel where i'm supposed to be able to watch it.
i've also tried using a HDMI cable and this way i can hear the film on one of the AV channels but there is no picture.
any idea how i connect the two to get both sound and the picture? i was told by a guy in my local electrical store that the hdmi cable would do the trick but this hasn't been the case.
