No Audio Output Device Is Installed

Hi All - Hope someone can help? Just ran Vaio updates on my VGN-FE41S and have lost audio. Not happy as only on its 2 week. Running Vista any help may well drop my stress levels

Hi milkingitworldwide and welcome.

You don't seem to be alone but unfortunately it could be lots of things.

Which Vaio Updates did you install?

Do you get sound before the Logon Screen?

A couple of things to try for starters: -

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager
Expand 'Sound, Video and Games Controllers'
Is the Sigmatel Codec shown as working properly or is there a yellow warning?

Go to Start -> Contol Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Scroll down the list and find 'Windows Audio'
Is this service 'Started' and is the startup type set to 'Automatic'?

Hi Blencogo

Yes got sound bfore logon. Checked Device manager and all working ok along with Admin Tools.

Viewing Control Panel in classic double clicked Sound and says "no audio devices are installed"

Used driver update SigmaTel Audio Driver 6.10.5379.0

Any more suggestions?
