'No audio device' on VGN FE31M - my sounds gone!

I have no idea how but i must have done something to lose the sound from my VGN FE31M.
I have run Vista with no problems for 6 months and have installed updates automatically.

In the device manager sound shows only 'Sigma Tel High DefinitionAudio Codec' and its apparently working ok.

When I mute or try to adjust the volume using the round keyboard keys the show muting but the volume graphic will not move above the first bar.

Has anyone any ideas?

try a system restore to a point when the sound was working..

Just noticed that the speaker icon from the bottom right menu bar had disappeared!

Did a system restore help.?
