Hi folks,
I own an PCG-SR31K. Some weeks ago I figured out that there are many corrupted/destroyed sectors on my harddisk so I bought a new one.
Samsung MP0603H 60GB.
I was able to partition and even format it, so it looks like the drive and communication with it work properly. But I can't install windows.
PCG-SR31K was delivered with a restore-cd. You are supposed to boot from CD ROM (connected via PCMCIA), then the CD lets you modify and format partitions of the hdd and then windows image is copied and installation performed.
With my old drive that works - but doesn't with the new one. The CD ROM is accessed but soon nothing happens. Cursor blinks on the monitor, that's it. Already asked someone who is a bit more experienced with VAIOs than I am so I am sure its no "beginner-fault" I made.
Anyone having a clue?

Well in DOS that wouldn't work Seb
You're best doing
chkdsk C: /f
Yes, you have too reboot normally. Then it opens a blue DOS box and the scan starts.
Seb but the original poster hasn't got Windows on the PC yet
also true:smileyblush:
