Need Help - replacing d56a dvd-rw on an vgn-a297xp!!!

Hello,

i searched alot the "WHOLE INTERNET" but cannot find a solution:

My dw.d56a dvd-burner is killed - no firmware flash / software recovery can make it to read any cdrom/dvd
so i decided to by a new dvd-burner (probably a plextor -but this dosent matter anyway)

Can anyone tell me step by step how to change my drive???
I cant find any information on that topic...

Hi liutom and welcome to Club Vaio.

Most CD Drives are only held in by one or two screws at the most. Unfortunately getting at the screws can be a major exercise.

Rich found THIS LINK earlier today, which was made by a Club Vaio member. It shows how to get into an A-Series Vaio. I would think you should be able to see how to get the drive out once you have opened the case.

If you look at Section D of this EXPLODED DIAGRAM OF A297XP you will see a close up of the fittings for the DW-D56A drive.
