Media Player won't launch

FE41Z running Vista. When I try to launch media player (either from the Start menu or by double clicking on a media file) nothing happens.

However if I right click on the media player icon and choose 'run as administrator' it launches ok.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Yup it's to do with the wonderful "User Account Control" that comes with vista. It basically blocks some programs from running if they don't have suitable permissions.

You might well say you are logged on as an administrator and you double-clicked it but that aint enough. You have to either:

1) right-click and say 'Run as Administrator'

or

2) change the shortcut 'Advanced' properties to default to 'Run as Administrator'.

Complete pain in the teets I know. Only way around all this seems to be to disable the wonderful UAC altogether.
