Hi
Is anyone running Linux on a Vaio F Series? I'm looking for a new laptop for running Ubuntu or Fedora Linux and would be very interested to hear of any issues (and successes) that others have experienced with Linux on the F Series before buying.
Thanks
Hi, renyard.
The best way for you will be to select exact model and then google it : "VGN-your_favourite_vaio_model linux" (instead of linux you can try your favourite linux distr like Fedora of Ubuntu)
But if you want to find some issues.. here you go: http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/sony.html
There are many articles about F-series.
And here: http://code.google.com/p/vaio-f11-linux/ - community support for F-series.
Hope you find what you want.. and will enjoy Linux
Regards
Hi, I bought Sony VAIO VPC F13E1E/H and I also have problems installing Linux, especialy with the monitor not recognised even when tried the solution of the VAIO-F11-Linux community with the EDID.
Does anyone know if support will be included in the drivers in the near future? I need to run both Windows and Linux because of my job and I know I should've searched about compatibility before I bought the laptop but its so absurd not supporting Linux at least for the basic hardware components.
Anyone has same model that solved the problems with the screen/monitor not getting detected?
PS. I also own a VGN-FJ3S that works 100% with Linux, its sad seeing newer models having so many problems running it.

I tried installing Fedora Linux 14 64bit with KDE4 and it now works perfect, everything autodetected and USB 3.0 ports working after enabling xHCI driver.
