Hi,
While I was working on a word document my laptop just switched off. It is now failing to respond and won't start up. I have checked the power supply and it is fine
Anyone have any clues to the problem?
Might have overheated. Did it make any beeping noises before it died?
no, it had only been switched on for 5mins
Could be any number of things.
Are there any lights on or is it completely dead?
what model of laptop is it?
As T-W said, this could be caused by any number of problems.
One possible cause is a faulty memory module or memory slot. If you have two memory modules installed, try all combinations with a single module in each slot, if this has no effect it will at least eliminate the memory as the cause.
Its just gone dead

My hunch is that it's a power issue.
Best thing would be to get in touch with Sony at Vaio-Link. Click here for contact numbers.
Try what Rich suggested, otherwise disconnect it from the power and reconnect it, you never know you might have pushed the cable out.
Otherwise try removing the battery and putting it back in
See the thread associated with my post it could be the same issue causing your problem.
