There is no easy yes or no answer. Anything is possible but Sony do not support a downgrade of the NR-Series to XP and so there are no official Drivers or Utilities available. There will not be any support from Sony if you get into trouble. You will also have to buy a copy of XP.

It depends on your level of expertise because you will have to find all the necessary drivers from various other Vaio models or from the device manufacturers direct.

As far as I know, nobody had downgraded a NR-Series Vaio to XP and managed to get everything to work properly. The lack of any Utilities means that things like screen brightness adjustment, Power Management, Special Keys etc. can not be made to work.

Not recommended unless you really know what you are doing.

Thanks for your reply, I've years of expertise in this field but as this downgrade is for a client I've very limited time(I was hoping for a quick fix lol) to downgrade this lappy also as you said 'no support from Sony', I suspect this would also invalidate their warranty. So I shall give this a miss.
